Yakarta, Viva – The president of the Association of Geology Experts of Indonesia (IAGI), Budi Santoso evaluated the government’s decision to revoke four mining commercial licenses of Nickel (IUP) in the Raja Ampat region, southwest Papua.

The considerations taken in the revocation of the IUPs were also evaluated in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

“This type of decision should be based on mature legal considerations, not only obeying the insistence of certain parties, because it implies the certainty of businesses in the mining sector,” Budi said in his statement, Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Budi explained that the main tourist area of ​​Raja Ampp was composed of the ‘Waigeo Training’ of limestone that was designated from the seabed. Then he submits to the Kartisikan process forming a group of beautiful islands.

“Geologically, Laterita’s nickel deposits potential is being developed in the IUP-IUP location area found in activities and several areas around it,” Budi said.

Therefore, Budi emphasized the importance of the approach based on scientific data on nickel mining management in the region.

In addition, the company was also asked to be more transparent to transmit compliance with several existing regulations, even in accordance with applicable international governance standards.

Budi also emphasized that the management of mineral resources really requires a balance between economic, environmental and social aspects by constantly implementing good mining practices. In addition, compliance with environmental, social and governance principles and sustainability.
