Yakarta, alive – The Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol claimed to carry out an environmental audit on the mining site in PT Gag Nickel in Raja Ampat, southwest Papua.

In addition, the Indonesian president, Pabowo Subianto, asked the Ministry of Environment to increase its supervision.

“Then, in time, we will immediately assign an environmental audit to increase the save related to mining in the gag,” Hanif told reporters in the presidential complex of the Palace, Yakarta, Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

According to him, the evaluation of PT Gag Nickel operations in the last four years has been very good. Based on the results of the government evaluation related to PT GAG field supervision it is also quite good.

“Because for almost 4 years the value of the appropriate is blue and green blue is relatively very high in obedience. Therefore, the implementation has been evaluated for 4 years. And yesterday the results of the field supervision are quite good,” he said.

Therefore, to ensure that its operations do not damage the environment, it will carry out an audit.

“However, in time I immediately have interest in going directly there to ensure that the environmental guard remains very well,” he said.

Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed the reasons for the Government not to revoke the Nickel PT GAG (KK) contract in the Raja Ampat region, southwest Papua. Bahlil explained, based on the results of the evaluation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the mining operations carried out by PT GAG were fine. PT ANTAM subsidiary mining is also agreed with the environmental impact analysis (AMDAL).

However, Bahlil emphasized that President Prabowo Subrianto ordered the operations of PT Gag Nickel to closely supervise. This is to ensure that the Raja AMPPA ecosystem is maintained as a state asset.

“Because it is also part of the state assets, as long as we are looking correctly. The president’s instructions, we must monitor the environment. And so far we can still run,” he said.

Bahlil also dismissed the links of Nickel PT gag nickel activities with Jokowi. Employed, PT GAG has explored since 1972 and has pocketed a employment contract (KK) since 1998 or the end of the era of the new order.
