Member of the Commission of the Chamber of Representatives XII Alfons Manibu said that there was a need for space for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Ministry of Environment (KLH) to carry out a comprehensive and objective evaluation related to the granting of mining permits that had an impact on the Raja AMPAT region.

“It is necessary to have space for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and KLH to carry out an exhaustive and objective evaluation,” he said in a statement in Yakarta, on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

He also emphasized, supporting the steps of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, by temporarily suspending the activities of the Nickel PT Gag Nickel Nickel Operations in Gag Island, Raja Amppp, as a form of response to the aspirations of the community and the commitment to preserve the environment.

“In principle, Parliament understands the substance of the complaints presented in recent weeks,” he said.

According to him, the government movement temporarily closed the entire process and activities of nickel mining in the right of Raja ampat to avoid the potential for damage in the region.

Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that PT Gag Nickel operation licenses were published since 2017, long before he served as a minister of the cabinet in the government.

However, it will still take firm measures against mines that are considered violating the provisions and endangering the regional ecosystem.
