Yakarta, alive – Member of the Commission of the Chamber of Representatives XII of the Gackar party faction, Alfons Manibui, encouraged the Ministry of Environment (KLH) to be more proactive when responding to the controversy related to all the mining activity of Nickel in Raja ampat, Southwest Papua.

According to him, KLH has an important role in ensuring that environmental protection remains a priority in the conservation area.
“As a ministry that has authority in environmental aspects, KLH needs to ensure that the entire supervision and control process works well, especially in areas that have high ecological values such as Raja Amppat,” Alfons said from his statement, Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

He explained that the KLH played a role in the approval of the Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) document and a loan loan use permit (IPPKH) in the mining industry. Therefore, according to him, the evaluation of the potential of environmental impacts is a responsibility and requires an active role of KLH.
He recalled that the information that circulated should also be straightened, including the question of the mining places that turned out to be in a different area of the conservation area that became the main tourist destination of Raja Ampat.

“This is important for people to understand the real context, and there is no confusion between the issue of mining and tourism,” he said.
Responding to this, Alfons expects KLH to openly present the results of the technical evaluation, as well as the mitigation steps that have been taken or taken.
“The dissemination of information will provide clarity to the community and show that the government is present and responsible for mining and conservation areas and will transmit what really happened in Raja AMPPA,” he explained.
Labih continued Alfons said that the Commission of the House of Representatives XII will continue to promote the synergy between KLH and the related sectors so that the supervision of mining activities in sensitive areas such as Raja Ampat can function in a comprehensive and responsible manner.
