Yakarta, alive – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said it would monitor all mining activities in the Raja Amppat region, southwest Papua. The objective is that mining efforts in Raja ampat can be executed in accordance with applicable laws.

Supervision is carried out to cover aspects of legality, environmental protection and compliance with conservation areas and protected forests.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will also evaluate mining activities in accordance with Law No. 27 of 2007 on the management of coastal areas and small islands, which require recovery to be carried out considering technical, environmental and social benefits.

Bahlil has visited the Raja Ampat region, one of which is Gag Island on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Bahlil reviewed the activities of the Nickel PT GAG and listened directly to the aspirations of the local community.

“I came here to see firsthand the situation in the field and listen to the community. The results will be verified and analyzed by the Mining Inspector team,” Bahlil said in a written statement cited on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
In addition, Bahlil said that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had deployed a team of mining inspectors to carry out technical evaluations of the entire mining business license (Wiup) in Raja AMPAT. The results of the evaluation will be the basis of additional policies and decisions of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
“The government emphasized that, although all companies already have official permits, evaluations will continue to be carried out sustainably to maintain a balance between environmental sustainability and economic activities,” he said.
There are five companies that have pocketed official permits to carry out mining in the Raja Ampat region. Two of them have obtained permission from the central government, namely, PT Gag Nickel with a production operating permit since 2017 and PT Anugeh Surea Pratama (ASP) with a production permit since 2013.
Then, three other companies obtained permission from the Regional Government (Raja ampat regent), namely, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa (MRP) with IUP issued in 2013, PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining (KSM) with IUP issued in 2013 and PT Nurham with IUP was issued in 2025.
1. Pt Gag Nikel
Of the five companies, only PT Gag Nickens has carried out operations in Gag Island, Raja Ampat Regency. But at present, the activity was temporarily arrested by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
PT Gag Nickel is the head of the employment contract VII (KK) with an area of 13,136 hectares on this GAG Island has entered the stage of the production operation based on the decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 430.K/30/DJB/2017 valid until November 30, 2047.
The company had an AMDAL document (environmental impact analysis) in 2014, then the AMDAL Annex in 2022, and the Minister of Environment and Silviculture of Type A was published last year by the Minister of Environment and Forestry. Meanwhile, IPPKH (loan permit for the forest area) was issued in 2015 and 2018. The work area agreement (PAK) was issued in 2020.
Until 2025, the total mining opening reached 187.87 ha, with 135.45 has been recovered. PT Gag Nickel has not yet sent wastewater because it is still waiting for the issuance of the elected eligible certificate (only).
2. PT ANUGERAH SURYA Pratama (ASP)
The company pocketed production operations based on the decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 91201051135050013 issued on January 7, 2024 and is valid until January 7, 2034.
The area has an area of 1,173 ha on the island of Manuran. For environmental aspects, PT ASP has an AMDAL document in 2006 and UKL-Supl in the same year of the Raja ampat.
3. PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa (MRP)
This company is the head of the IUP of the Raja Ampat Regent Decree No. 153.A in 2013, which is valid for 20 years to February 26, 2033 and covers a region of 2,193 ha on Batang Pele Island.
At present, the activity is still in the exploration stage (drilling) and still does not have environmental documents or environmental approval.
4. PT One Seijatera Mining (KSM)
PT KSM has an IUP with the legal basis of the Decree of Regent No. 290 of 2013, which is valid by 2033 with an area of 5,922 ha.
For the use of the area, the company has IPPKH as a function of the decree of the 2022 LHK Minister. Production activities have been carried out since 2023, but currently there is no production activity that takes place.
5. Pt nurham
The head of IUP based on Raja Ampat Regent Decree No. 8/1/IUP/PMDN/2025 has a permission until 2033 with an area of 3,000 hectares on WaEgeo Island. The company has had the environmental approval of the Raja Ampat Regnce government since 2013. Until now, the company has not produced.
