VIVA – A bus convoy and a private car left towards Gaza from the capital of Tunisia on Monday, as part of an effort to highlight the Israeli block of humanitarian assistance to the region, even when Israel’s authority arrested the large fleet to land there.

The land efforts maintained consisted of activists, lawyers and medical professionals in North Africa.
They plan to cross Tunisia, Libya and Egypt before arriving in Rafah, the border with Egypt, which was mostly closed since the Israeli army controlled Gaza’s side in May 2024.

The Tunisian civil society group behind the convoy said its purpose was to demand “unfair termination of the siege in the Gaza Strip.”

They stressed that the Arab government was not urgent enough to finish the war for 20 months between Israel and Hamas.

Israel and Egypt have imposed several levels of Gaza’s blocking since Hamas took the power of their rival Palestinian troops in 2007. Israel said that the blockade was necessary to prevent Hamas from importing weapons, while critics said it was a collective punishment for the population of Gaza.
The convoy plans to gather supporters in the cities of southern Tunisia before crossing Libya, where the clash between the militias at war has become more and more mortal in recent months. The organizer said they planned land crosses with related authorities before the departure of the convoy.
