This statement was transmitted by APNI general secretary, Meidy Katrin Lengkey, after the increase in accusations of mining activities in the region.

According to Meidy, PT GAG is an APNI member who has received several official recognitions, from good mining practices to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

Meidy lamented the narrative that developed on social networks, including videos and photos that showed such serious damage to Raja ampat. He considered a lot of inaccurate visual information, even supposedly the result of the manipulation of artificial intelligence (AI).

“It is now difficult to distinguish what is genuine, what is manipulated. The fact is, not as described in social networks,” he said.

He also referred to the environmental activist incident that entered the International Conference forum and shouted to accuse environmental damage. Based on APNI’s clarification, the figure that claimed to be Papu was not from Papua.

“He who shouted turned out to be North Sumatra. This is a form of deviation from the problem,” he said.

Regarding the revocation of the Minera Commercial License (IUP) by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources against four companies in Raja Ampp, Meidy said that none of them were the official members of APNI. It is still verifying the integrity of the legality of the four companies.

“The four are not our members. We are still reviewing the integrity of the documents. But certainly, PT ga ga is not part of them and has been verified for a long time as our members,” Meidy explained.

He added that the IUP revocation should be a boost to improve coordination between government institutions. According to him, many companies already have an IUP of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, but are limited by other licenses, such as the loan permit of the forest area (IPPKH) of the Ministry of Forestation whose quota is limited.

“Sometimes the provinces and centers are not connected either. Finally, the businessman is at a disadvantage, the State can lose the income potential,” he said.

APNI hopes that the government can create synchronous regulatory ecosystems between agencies and guarantee the certainty of business, without ignoring environmental, social and governance aspects.
