Sandfall Interactive has a lot to celebrate following the release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The game was made available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, including Xbox Game Pass. And in just only three days following its release, the game managed to pass over 1 million sales. These numbers come over the weekend, when the game initially passed over 500,000 copies being sold in just over 24 hours.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become an instant hit

News of the success for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 comes from a posting on X by Kepler Interactive, the publisher of the game. The company thanked fans of the game for supporting and believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but also went on to mention that the numbers revealed only count the sales of copies of the game shipped over to retailers. It did not take into account the number of downloads over Xbox Game Pass after launch.

“This number includes units shipped to retailers, and does not encompass our awesome Game Pass players. Thank you all.”

Because of that, the number may actually be a lot higher for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 across all platforms. But we may not hear an exact amount for some time, if not at all. But reaching over 1 million copies sold in just a short amount of time is no easy task, and shows that there is an audience of players who want to play turn-based role-playing games just like this.

Many Are Playing Expedition 33

At the same time, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also managed to have over 121,000 concurrent players on Steam. According to numbers shared by SteamDB, the highest number of people that were playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was 121,422 around the time of the game’s launch.

These numbers have since dropped after the weekend, with around 80,000 people still playing it online. This number may also be a lot larger when taking into account the number of players outside of Steam.

Early impressions for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 were very good before the official release, which may have contributed to the high numbers that the game is experiencing now. Most reviews published about it were generally positive, describing the game as a modern-RPG classic, and contributed to the game receiving an averaged 90 score on Metacritic.

This made Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 the highest-reviewed game of 2025 so far. The team at Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive responded to the positive reception at the time on X, sharing their appreciation for the kind words being shared around about their game.

“Today, for the first time, we read the words of people who finally held our dream in their hands, in its entirety. This has been beyond our wildest imagination. Thank you all, truly. Our game was crafted by a small, passionate group of RPG fans…”

It hasn’t been that long since Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became available to players, so there’s no telling how long it will keep the momentum going. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through Steam. The game can be downloaded now through Xbox Game Pass as well.
