As the Windows 10 end-of-support date looms in the distance, Microsoft would really, really prefer that you upgrade to Windows 11 already. The company has already tried convincing people that TPM 2.0 is worth the trouble of upgrading for, and now, Microsoft is trying a new strategy: selling its Copilot+ PC.
As part of its plan, Microsoft has published an article discussing why a Copilot+ PC is, as it claims, the best upgrade for someone with a Windows 10 machine. And those who are still on the older operating system are finding large pop-up windows asking them to make the jump to a Copilot+ PC.
Microsoft wants you to just buy a Copilot+ PC already
As spotted by Windows Latest, Microsoft’s latest push to get people to pick up a Copilot+ PC comes in two forms. The first is a post titled “Copilot+ PCs are the most performant Windows PCs ever built, now with more AI features that empower you every day” on Windows Blogs, and it’s a huge love letter from the company itself as to why people on Windows 10 should buy one. Microsoft lists the following as benefits:
- Deliver up to 13% faster performance than the MacBook Air M42 amongst top performing devices, with unmatched AI experiences in market.
- Up to 5x faster than a 5-year-old Windows device,2 with enhanced security features that make them the most secure Windows PCs we’ve ever built.
- Provide the longest lasting battery amongst Windows PCs, with Up to 22 hours of video playback and up to 15 hours of web browsing, so you can go all day on a single charge.
If you’re still uncertain if Microsoft is targeting Windows 10 users or not, the blog post rounds off with the company directly mentioning people on the older operating system, convincing them that Copilot+ PCs offer “incredible value[…]making right now the smartest time to buy a new PC.”
The company is also showing Windows 10 users large full-screen pop-ups convincing people to purchase a Windows 11 machine. These pop-ups claim that people can “level up” their purchase by opting for a Copilot+ PC over a regular one.
Microsoft’s pleas come after a disappointing outlook for Copilot
In previous months, Microsoft has pestered Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11, but it didn’t really go for the Copilot+ angle. So, why is the company starting now?
Well, a recent report may be at the heart of this renewed push to adopt AI hardware. The report claimed that
“only” 20 million users use Copilot every week
, a far cry from the 400 million that ChatGPT musters. Not only that, but the adoption rate has apparently plateaued. If Microsoft doesn’t do something soon, that 20 million figure can only stay the same or go down, neither of which is ideal for the company that invested billions in this tech.
