Summary
- Nvidia may release an RTX 5070 Super and RTX 5080 Super with increased VRAM capacity.
- The potential Super refresh could use 3GB GDDR7 modules for larger memory without a redesign.
- A Super refresh may arrive around CES 2026, but it’s too early to say for sure.
With the RTX 5060 Ti behind us, Nvidia is almost done rolling out its initial lineup of RTX 50-series GPUs, and leakers are already looking at the future. According to members of the Chiphell forums (spotted by VideoCardz), Nvidia is working on a Super refresh for some of its RTX 50-series GPUs. Presumably, these cards would use the full GPU die available, short of the RTX 5090, which already uses the full die. More importantly, they’re said to come with a large bump to VRAM capacity, which has been a pain point on recent Nvidia launches like the RTX 5070.

An RTX 50-series Super refresh could bump VRAM capacity
Make sure to add a dash of salt to this one, though
The rumor floating around is that Nvidia plans to eventually release an RTX 5070 Super and RTX 5080 Super. That tracks with the previous generation, where cards like the RTX 4070 Super were released around a year after the initial range to critical acclaim. The big claim is that these cards will come with a VRAM bump: 18GB on the RTX 5070 Super and 24GB on the RTX 5080 Super. This isn’t blind speculation, either.
Nvidia is able to increase the memory capacity, according to leakers, due to 3GB GDDR7 modules. There’s only so much space for VRAM on a graphics card board, and Nvidia has used 2GB modules for all of its RTX 50-series GPUs, short of the mobile RTX 5090. The laptop version of Nvidia’s flagship comes with 24GB of memory on a 256-bit bus, utilizing the uncommon 3GB modules to reach that capacity. The idea is that Nvidia would use these 3GB modules for the RTX 5070 Super and RTX 5080 Super to increase memory capacity without completely redesigning the memory interface.
Although this rumor is just a claim from a forum member, MSI inadvertently confirmed the RTX 5080 with 24GB of memory a while back. And prior to the release of Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs, the prevailing theory was that Nvidia would launch the RTX 5080 initially with 24GB of memory.

Despite some promising rumors of elevated stock and reasonable pricing, Nvidia still haven’t done enough to make the 5060 worth buying.
If we do see an RTX 50-series Super refresh, it won’t be for a while. In the last generation, Nvidia released its RTX 40-series Super refresh a year into the lifecycle of Ada Lovelace GPUs. With an RTX 50-series Super refresh, we’d probably see the same timeline. That places a potential launch around CES 2026, but a lot could change between now and then.
Although few gamers would argue with extra VRAM, the lower-end cards in Nvidia’s Blackwell range would benefit most. Cards like the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti and upcoming RTX 5060 have the most to gain from increased VRAM capacity, so let’s hope an RTX 50-series Super refresh reaches beyond the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070.
