Remedy Entertainment, known for unorthodox titles like the Alan Wake franchise and 2019’s Control, shared a developer update for its newest title, FBC: Firebreak, which will be released on June 17, 2025. FBC: Firebreak is set in the world of Control, where the mundane corporate world belies eldritch horrors. In the game, players are agents of the FBC’s (Federal Bureau of Control) Firebreak squad, a ragtag group of first responders attempting to mitigate a years-long siege of the agency’s headquarters.

FBC: Firebreak is a cooperative survival shooter. Players can play solo or team up in 3-person squads to take on jobs with extraction shooter elements. It will be available to play on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S for $39.99.

Just another day on the job

In Remedy Entertainment’s developer update, Game Director Mike Kayatta and Community Manager Julius Fondem, played through a demo of a few of the upcoming game modes in FBC: Firebreak. They shared that the game will follow a co-op, mission-based framework, somewhat similar to the successful formula of Helldivers 2. Missions are called jobs in FBC: Firebreak, and Remedy Entertainment revealed two of them: Paper Chase and Hotfix.

In Paper Chase, players on a squad are tasked with destroying a set amount of yellow sticky notes through any means necessary. Sticky notes are scattered throughout the playable zone, which players can destroy using weapon combinations, or can even pick up on their bodies when running over them while wet. Paper Chase culminates in a boss fight against Sticky Ricky, an abomination of yellow sticky notes. In Hotfix, players are hired to fix, “a paranatural furnace causing the maintenance sector to overheat.” The gameplay showcase highlighted a team running and gunning through environmental checkpoints to keep overall heat down.

There are multiple difficulty levers for each job. Teams select a Clearance Level from 1-3, which corresponds to how many zones will need to be cleared (3 zones for Clearance Level 3). Threat Levels allow players to increase the frequency and ferocity of enemy spawning. And lastly, Corruption will allow more specialized modifications to the gameplay difficulty.

Kits and requisitions

FBC: Firebreak promises players a high level of customization and variety in gameplay styles. Crisis Kits are built around a central tool which acts as a class, and then each kit has unique weapon and grenade choices to further customize. The three kits and their main tools so far are:

  • Splash Kit – Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector, for quenching fires or shooting large globules of water to stun and soak The Hiss
  • Fix Kit – Wrench, for bashing enemies, breaking machines, fixing machines, and building components
  • Jump Kit – Electro-Kinetic Charge Impactor, “What if we combined a defibrillator with a pogo stick?” for mobility and shock injection

Requisitions are FBC: Firebreak’s take on unlockable cosmetics and gear. By playing the game, players earn Lost Assets (currency) that can be spent to unlock cosmetics from any unlocked Requisition track. Rewards are not earned linearly, so players have more choice in going after what they want. Classified Requisitions are paid versions of Requisitions with more premium cosmetics contained. All Requisition tracks will be permanently available, so there will not be a timed seasonal pressure for rewards tracks.
