PlayStation Plus, Sony’s subscription service for online play and free games, updated its ‘Last Chance to Play’ section going into May. Notably, 22 games that are currently offered for free download and play to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will be removed on May 20, 2025.
PlayStation Plus has struggled to keep up with the content offerings of rival subscription services like Xbox Game Pass. While Xbox Game Pass focuses more on delivering a new game pipeline, PlayStation Plus’ Extra and Premium tiers instead focus on access to PlayStation exclusive titles, classic games, and monthly giveaways.

We’ve seen this trick before.
PS Plus subscribers will probably hate to see games like Grand Theft Auto V, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Payday 2 no longer available, but it will be worse for those who enjoy Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 on their PS4 or PS5. The PS Plus streaming version of the first two Resistance games is the only way to play the games on current-gen consoles, so after May 20th, 2025, you’ll need a PS3 and a copy of the games to play them. They were added to the service in November 2024, so subscribers only got about 6 months to give them a go. Interestingly, both Resistance 3 and Resistance Retribution will remain available on PS Plus Premium.

PS Plus subscription gets you a bunch of new free games each month in addition to store discounts and online multiplayer access.
While this can be upsetting for PS Plus subscribers, it is not quite as bad numerically as 2024’s May clearout, which saw 25 titles removed from the service. Back then, subscribers lamented the losses of games like Final Fantasy VII, but at least there were no PS3 streaming exclusives that were cut off from the current generation consoles. Regardless, games like Grand Theft Auto V have been in and out of PS Plus’ rotation, so it would not be a shock if it returns to the service in the future.
