Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have finally gone live at multiple retail outlets. Gamers who have been eagerly awaiting the successor to the Switch now have a chance to secure one of their own. But it’s been anything but a smooth experience for most people looking to pick up Nintendo’s next console.
Nintendo Switch 2 preorders opened up late in retailers like Best Buy, Target, and GameStop at around 12:01am EST. People were able to select from either the Switch 2 console alone or the Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch 2 bundle. But instead of things going well for everyone trying to lock in a preorder, everything turned chaotic. Multiple people on social media began sharing their stories about how stressful it was to preorder a Switch 2, with many finding themselves looking at an error screen when trying to finalize their preorder.

Struggling for a new console
Getting a Switch 2 preorder is tough!
Geoff Keighley, industry personality and host of The Game Awards, shared his own experience when trying to get a Nintendo Switch 2 through the Target website when preorders opened up. “System was in my cart, then it wasn’t, then it was, wouldn’t let me pay, etc…” Geoff’s experience was echoed by others who found themselves in a similar situation as everyone continuously kept refreshing pages for multiple retailer websites. A number of responses to Geoff’s tweet shared how they worried about preorders that did get through not being real, as a few retailers have canceled confirmed preorders in the past in some cases.
Other retail outlets like Best Buy and Walmart experienced their own struggles with Switch 2 preorders. The high demand for the console saw customers being put into long line queues as more and more people flocked over to secure their console. One customer shared their experience through a series of images on X showing the Best Buy images as they waited. While some were able to get through and have their confirmation, others will still left waiting for a very long time.
The demand is very high
All of this comes after Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa released a statement to customers through the official Japanese Nintendo X account. Furukawa stated that the company was working to try and have a strengthened production output to satisfy the high demand for Switch 2 consoles prior to release.
“We plan to continue producing and shipping a considerable number of Nintendo Switch 2 units in the future. We apologize for the delay in our ability to meet your expectations, and we appreciate your understanding.”
As we get closer to the official release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 in June, many Nintendo fans are hoping there will be enough consoles for everybody to purchase. The demand for the Switch 2 remains high, and is only looking to get higher as the weeks go on. People are definitely excited about Nintendo’s next console.
