Nintendo is having one of the most interesting video game console launches ever. Not just because the Switch 2 looks to be much more than its predecessor. But because the Switch 2 appears to be riddled with uncertainty and rumors, all while fighting the overarching doom and gloom of a global tariff war in the background. To make matters worse, it appears now that Nintendo has limited its cloud save data for particular Switch 1 and 2 titles.

Nintendo, obviously, has plans for a 3D Mario game for the Switch 2. Here’s what they told fans regarding the upcoming game.

Nintendo may have limited some of their cloud save data for Switch 2 games

According to Eurogamer, Nintendo has appeared to have included a tiny disclaimer underneath select video games on their official website. Three particular games, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition, and Donkey Kong Bananza, were seen with the curious message in mid-April. The message appeared to let players know that these titles wouldn’t be able to utilize the special Nintendo Switch Online membership feature for reasons unknown.

“Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature,” the disclaimer read. However, the message has since been removed from the site entirely.

  • Donkey Kong Bananza

It should be noted that this message was only attributed to these titles on the Switch 2, while other games such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Kirby, and the Forgotten Land were all without said disclaimer. Currently, Nintendo hasn’t addressed the confusing messaging, nor have they addressed the messaging being removed from their site.

So, why would this be an issue? Well, as a part of the

Nintendo Switch Online
membership, players are able to seamlessly transfer saved files from one console to another, allowing them to play across the Switch family of consoles. But, if these titles aren’t a part of that promise, then players would need to start brand new journeys on the Switch 2—starting over from scratch.

Elsewhere in the rumor mill, Nintendo has finally cleared the air regarding the Switch 2’s retailer pre-order window. Last week, Nintendo released a statement detailing that the new console would be available for pre-order at select retailers in the United States starting on Thursday (April 24th).

And good news, regardless of the tariffs, the price for the Switch 2 remains $449.99 while the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle will be listed at $499.99. MKW and Donkey Kong Bananza’s prices are also unchanged at $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.

With all these rumors floating around Switch 2, let’s hope that at least some of this information will be answered soon.
